Health Foundation of South Florida Names Dr. Roger A. Mitchell Jr. Keynote Speaker for 2026 Black Health Summit

MIAMI, FL — The Health Foundation of South Florida announced that Dr. Roger A. Mitchell Jr., newly installed president of the National Medical Association, will serve as the keynote speaker for the 2026 Black Health Summit in Miami.

Dr. Mitchell, a nationally recognized forensic pathologist and health equity advocate, was inducted as the 126th president of the National Medical Association during the organization’s 2025 Annual Convention in Chicago. The NMA is the nation’s oldest and largest professional organization representing Black physicians and their patients. He also serves as president of Howard University Hospital.

The 2026 Black Health Summit is scheduled for Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at the Charles F. Dodge City Center in Miami. The event marks the summit’s fourth in-person gathering and fifth year overall.

Organized by the Health Foundation of South Florida, the Black Health Summit brings together community leaders, healthcare professionals, youth advocates, and policy and systems leaders to address health equity, justice, and outcomes in Black communities across South Florida. The 2026 convening will focus on the theme of power in collaboration.

“Dr. Mitchell’s leadership at the intersection of medicine, public health, and advocacy reflects the direction of this year’s Summit,” said Loreen Chant, president and CEO of the Health Foundation of South Florida. “As we highlight intergenerational leadership and the systems that influence community health, his perspective will be invaluable.”

According to the foundation, Dr. Mitchell’s keynote address will examine how cross-generational partnerships—rooted in lived experience and youth-driven innovation—can advance lasting change in public health, medical practice, and health policy.
